When you're chasing world records this can save a ton of time. If you've ever found that sometimes your system boots and sometimes, without changing anything, it doesn't then this button allows you to try a new boot until you strike it lucky and have one that works. The ReTry button in particular is useful when you're on the ragged edge. Working clockwise from the top right, the Extreme has all the hallmarks you'd expect to find on a motherboard designed for extreme overclocking. We will take a closer look at what differentiates them on the next couple of pages. Both models in this particular form are similarly replete with technical wizardry.

Even today's pair of motherboards - the Maximus VIII Extreme and Maximus VIII Extreme Assembly - have enough differences to make them worthy of consideration, even if the main elements are very similar.Īs you would expect from anything baring the Extreme moniker, the Maximus VIII in both guises is jammed full of technology. The Maximus VIII range has seem a massive change in this approach, with each of the models from the Hero through the Formula and now the Extreme having something distinct to recommend them beyond the mere addition or subtraction of various inputs. Whilst this is a splendid way of working for the company, it does mean that their higher priced offerings usually were difficult to justify purchasing unless you demanded the absolute top range, show-off in your signature, model. Usually nothing of extraordinary importance - a USB port here, a SATA port there - and you just hopped into the range wherever you could afford to do so. You may have to RMA the board. The old way that ASUS used to produce their motherboards was to start with a monster offering which had everything you wanted, then as you gradually moved down the price range some features were removed. Mobo problem? CPU problem? software? i updated bios, cleared CMOS. On a side note: for some reason after my failed overclock i can no longer use the intagrated graphisc on my mobo, (plugging hdmi cable from monitor to mobo no longer works) the only way i can get video signal now is put in my video card and get the video feed from there. Ill try replacing the memory dimms tonight and see how it goes ive tried updating the bios with no luck, also tried resetting CMOS, and set default bios settings. Because of a failed overclock, i can no longer overclock my chip anymore because if i enter anything higher than 34 into the multiplier*? (not sure what its called but not the base clock) it automatically replaces anything i enter that is over 34 default as 34 as my highest multiplier. Just joined this forum because im experimenting a similar problem with my 3570k + Saber-tooth Z77 and Samsung 30nm ram. I will also try the diagnostic tool a bit later and report back. Also the auto setting does not allow oc with turbo boost. I know a lot of people have had problems with the AUTO setting so I've recommended them before to use the "by all cores" setting but using all cores makes the (atleast mine) multiplier lock at 12x when resuming from standby.

Booted windows and now tools are reporting 3800mhz. Went into bios and switched to by all cores and changed the TB multiplier to 38x and switched back to AUTO (from by all cores). I restarted, and the same thing happened again. So today after the overclock failed message I went into bios and used "per core" setting instead with 43x multipl. When windows booted I checked the speed with aida and AI suite and they both reported that my cpu was running at 4300mhz. When I switched to auto the bios target CPU speed said 3800mhz. Also yesterday before I changed it to Auto (from by all cores) my turbo boost multiplier was at 43x100. This happens when I use the Auto setting. When I shutdown my computer and turn it back on again the next day I receive the message "Overclock failed" press f1 to enter bios. Ahh now I remember why I started using "By all cores".
